musicman7722: the bios saw the move to slave and recognized it. I can see the drive in XP as D: but when I try to access I get an error saying the drive cannot be read.
gotit: no physical noises...

Gateway determined that the HD had failed and sent replacement.
I reinstalled on new drive and had old set to slave on the same IDE0.

I am having the same issue today on a dell at work. Will not boot past Mup.sys on the safe mode screen. It goes right back to post. Safe mode and last known do the same thing.... Help?

try using XP pro's inherent remote desktop feature, I use it at my facility with good results. :redeyes:
titeVNC or other VNC flavors are also options that I have used....
