Another thing to note is that most of the CD Rom drives prior to the 32x don't/wont read a burned cd while they'll have no problem with a Mastered original.

Just to humor me a bit you might also check to see if the printer properties\defaults are set to "Use offline, or Pause" and if so uncheck that.

You might want to use a cable tester to check the cat5 on that system for intermitent failure. I'de also look at the nic as a possible cause.
