I bought a Compaq Aero 2160 last year. (£200). With 24mb ram, 65k colour screen, and Windows CE 2.11, it works a dream. I can even browse and email via infra red with my mobile... Got Pocket streets installed, with maps of London etc, and Palm remote to control TV's, Hifis, DVD's etc.

I know the IPAQ is cheaper now, and much faster... Go for a Windows based, Colour screen.
Man, when I bought mine, the Handspring Deluxe was the same price, but it was B&W, with 8 MB Ram. Now I got 65k Colour, and 24MB Ram, at the same price.

You can either go for a Hand held, with the Keyboard etc like a PSION, HP offer a wide range, but the Palm Computers (Compaq, HP, Casio) are better...
