You can purchase Norton or McAfee for installation, free updates, and offline scanning. The version of McAfee you are using is different than one purchased at the store. And past freedom from virus trouble is not relevant to the present. They have become much more prevalent in recent months and AV software, even with the most recent definitions, isn't a guarantee--just a little help. Backup, backup, backup.
