I can't click on any link in any site that has a link to there email address

Ex: contact us, click here to email us.

Everytime IE click on something like that I freeze for 5-8 seconds then IE closes out. or I multiple Browsers opening at once (56 one time)

What email software are you using? It should open up and start a new msg. If you have more than one program or you have multiple email accounts, that could be a problem. If you are strictly using a web type emailer, i.e. hotmail, I don't think that Internet Explorer will allow you to direct mail the links in a web page.

- go to TOOLS | INTERNET OPTIONS |PROGRAMS
- see what the default email application is and make sure it is set to whatever you are using...sometime it goes screwy...thx to M$

I'm using Office XP's Outlook, just called "microsoft Outlook"
I have 3 email account from the same provider "Sympatico"
and One hotmail acount.
Honestly I don't ever think I had this problem before installing Microsoft Outlook but I would like to keep it.
I checked the Knowledge base but there's nothing there that I Could find.

Raven; I checked that too: and it is set to Microsoft Outlook. the only other option is Outlook express.

Try this....it will determine if its an Outlook or I.E. problem.

Right-click on an empty space on your desktop and choose New | Shortcut. In the Command line, type (without quotes, and no space after the colon! Replace the fake email address with your recipient's.) "mailto:[email protected]" Click next and give it a name (like email whoever) Now just double-clicking that icon will open your default email client and should come up with a blank msg. If it works, then its an IE prob. If it doesn't I would think that its Outlook.

Let me know the results.

I can't choose a mailto: as a command lin only programs that I have in my drives. the closest thing I can select to that is my address book. <img src="confused.gif" border="0">

i created the shortcut he was talking about and it worked. maybe you mistyped something.

the location of the item should be:

mailto:[email protected]

Maybe because I'm using XP? with Office XP and Microsoft Outlook.

I just did it, and it worked for me. BTW, I'm also running XP Pro.

Jus tgot off the phone with Sympatico and they say it's a problem with my software (of course) they told me to uninstall zonealarm and go back to outlook 2000.

I'll try unistalling outlook 2002 but not zonealarm.

Chill out DANIMAL, no need to get hot under the collar.

Most likely the default handlers for the mailto: protocol have not been installed. I found this page <a href="http://chattanooga.net/~scochran/oelnk.htm" target="_blank">http://chattanooga.net/~scochran/oelnk.htm</a> which explains how to get it to work for OE5, however I understand you're trying to get it to work with Outlook, so maybe some Outlook user out there could let us know what is in their computer for the mailto: protocol.

I have Outlook XP and WinXP Pro and the "create mailto shortcut" that I described before works just fine. I would really have to question Outlook after reading all the posts. If you can, try to reinstall it.
