Post SB-Live Problems

Ok I cannot get sound under XP. And i'm about ready to throw in the towel and go back to 98 again.

I've tried different pci slots, ive tried different drivers (the ones that come included w/ XP, the ones on windows update, the new 2k drivers that were just recently released on sept 21 by creative) still no dice. the drivers load i get the sound icon but when i try to play anything, MIDI/WAV/CD the player either stays stuck at 0 Minutes or slowly moves with no sound at all.

The model of card is SB-Live Value (CT4830)

As always, Any help is much appreciated

First off, Nice to see you back Darren. Things havn't been the same in your absence.

It's an ABIT KT7-A Raid
I have a geforce based card in the agp
A D-link DFE538 NIC in PCI slot 3 and another of the same in PCI slot 6
I've tried the Live in slots 2,4,5 i cant try it in 1 since the heatsink on my vid card is in the way. I have disabled the LPT,COM1,COM2 and USB ports to free up IRQs i dont use these anyway. I'm running my HDD off of the RAID controller and my burner off the onboard ide.

I'm also dual booting and the soundcard works normally under 98SE.

Sorry, thought I'd been forgotten...

The hardware compatibility list on M$ says its not compatible if you search using ct4830, however that probly just means they havn't tested it.

Actually, I would go out on a limb and say that Microsoft HAS tested just about every modern piece of hardware out there with XP. I've only come across only less than a handful of pieces of hardware that XP didn't detect and wasn't compatible with. One was an ISA modem that just needed the drivers installed the old fashioned way. Another was a Kensington Web Cam that Kensington doesn't support under 2K/XP.

It's tough to admit, but MS really put a lot of work into this OS, thank God. This isn't just another Windows ME, although I don't think sales will be outstanding like it was for the 95 release.

Hmm strange, my SB Live! Value is CT4670 (or 4870 light not very good in here & I can't be bothered to strip my system down ) but this is working sweet as a nut.

Both of those are listed as compatible if you do the search. So it seems i may just hafta wait till launch for sound.... unless..... *Begins dusting off ISA SB16*

Question

Hi. I've had exactly the same problem as mentioned in this thread. SB Live Value (CT4830) and can't get a peep out of XP. Ive tried it in all PCI slots and Ive tried all win2k/xp drivers I could find (including the new one from the Creative site). Most just show the card as working fine in device manager, but still nothing actually happens. Had to install the latest drivers manually as they wouldn't detect the card (think I've had that problem before?)

PC: duron 600, via kt133 chipset, geforce 2 gts, accton ethernet card.

Did anyone out there manage to find a workaround for this problem? I a bit pissed that I seem to have got the particular card revision that is the only one not working !

Its driving me mad. Don't want to have to go back to ME, and 2k won't run Halflife and Quake3 very well..

Andy

actually it was resolved, since I work with Joker I'll fill you in.

It seemed that the chip he was taking the model # off of is designated for a sbLive Platinum, but it was placed on a sbLive Value. WinXP drivers would not detect the card properly like this. We replaced the card with another Live value with the correct chip on it and it worked like a charm.

The card was a dud, I RMA'd it and it turned out that it had a rev of chip on it that referd to the platinum not the live value (I compared on the net and with two other friends who had the same type of card and they had different a different emu10k-??? chip on it) , i got it replaced with a 5.1 and it works great now. (this also explains why I would get an error indicating there was no sblive in my system when i tried to run the update, yet xp would still detect it) check what the number is on your card

Cool

I have the same board and although i havent had the same problems, (as i have a platinum live) there is a note on abits site concerning issues with the sb live series, and it is supposesly resolved in the latest bios update, and by changing the PCI timeout i believe, see this link

kt7a raid homepage and then mouse over the bios update link, and read read read!!!

Your refering to the Via/SBLive issue, it seems to have been resolved through the latest Via 4in1s and the latest SBlive driver, (thats assuming the problem ever existed, ive seen alot of system works just fine and all the problems i experienced can be traced back to a bad card)
