Are others that dont have this map going to be able to play it also or are they going to get kicked because they dont have the map downloaded?
Only say this because there are a lot of people that I have been meeting in other servers and giving Milenkos server the Thumbs up for Awsomeness.

If they have autodownload activated they won't get kicked.

Otherwise, the suggestion of having a list of current maps used on the server would solve the problem.

I suppose we can give it a try as long as the mapfile isn't too big. There's nothing I hate more than having to wait 10 mins to get on a server.

I will have to keep an eye on the server to see whether or not having an extra map affects the number of people playing. The biggest problem is that the quake client does NOT autodownload by default, and that could ruin it for a lot of people who don't know what's going on. Currently the server gets about 5000 - 6000 frags a night during the week, and up to 15,000 a night on the weekends. If these numbers start to decrease, then we'll have to go back to the standard maps.

What about the idea of changing the Message of the Day to refer to a website so anyone can go there and get the links for the map? Even with doing a URL forwarding?

If you want Milenko, we can design a simple page for it... hell, I will even offer up using some of my webspace (through Comcast) to throw up the page.

I will work up something and let you know man.
If it aint broke, TWEAK it!
When in doubt, throw it out!!

    Hey Milenko.... quick question...

Are you still hosting an Unreal Tournament server?? I havent heard a thing about UT for a while and was curious if you still were hosting it, which was getting more action? Q3 or UT?

The UT server is no longer. Quake3 was getting way more action. When the two servers where both getting hit hard at the same time, for some reason ping times suffered all around. The net connection was no where near full capacity, so I dunno what was up with that.

Because of this, I don't start the UT server up anymore.

Milenko- what connection do you have for the servers? Just wondering, because back when I was thinking about getting DSL I was told that I couldn't expect good game server performance from the "limited" line bandwith.

The Quake3 server shares a T1 with the Windrivers friends page. Server itself is an AMD XP 1500(used to be athlon 1.2 ghz) with 512 MB RAM and 1 30 & 1 40 GB 7200 RPM ATA100 HDs.
