Music while gaming
As discussed in the tech lounge, I've gotten fond of having the Lord of the Rings soundtrack playing when I am on Quake 3.
It seems like any Sci-Fi / Fantasy soundtrack would be great to have while gaming, and I'm also fond of the Akira soundtrack while gaming (anime).
What do you guys listen to while racking up the frags?

Nothing but the game music. I actually can't play well if anything else is playing. When I play I get overly competitive and If I miss a footstep or someone jumping because music is playing I get pissed. Its just that I get soo envolved in the game...I sometimes don't even realize someone is talking to me when they are right next to me.

If you want music Draggar, try Rocket Arena 3. It has the integrated mp3 player and you can polish up your Quake 3 skills there too.
I play it alot when I want to be humbled. There are some rough guys out there that have picked me off from far away in mid air with the rail gun.

Ingame music here too - if at all.
I can't fully enjoy the music or the game if both or on at the same time...
But I do recall Descent 2 had Ogre (from Ministry) to do their soundtrack and that it created a nice mood.
I tend to leave it off if it's not industrial or hard techno.

It is good to just go in not giving a $hit about the game but just getting in the groove.
I had a few awesome games on Q3 Excessive while I had Winamp running.

Game sounds through the headphones. Guns and Roses on the speakers so I can hear it over the game (yes with the headphones on).
Problem is, my headphones are pro DJ-ing ones, which are pretty much sound-proof. I'm glad I get on with my neighbours

Do you remember the piece of music that accompanied Valves' logo on Half Life? I used to play AvP and keep the HL disc in the drive, it used to play the whole track and it was really atmospheric in the AvP game. Now I listen to no music during a shoot out cos I'm too busy listening for approaching stealthy footsteps or can't hear the co-driver when rallying and already have enough trouble telling left from other left at the best of times.

The Blood soundtrack fits the game well and turns the game from good to great.
I enjoy freaking people out by playing it at halloween parties and.

For quake 3, I like limp's chocolate starfish. I'll crank the game sound up all the way, then the music enough to hear it

Mechwarrior 2/Ghost Bear's Legacy/Mercenaries sound tracks are some of the best music out there for gaming. Mercenaries in particular is great for DMing.
