Do you have the speakers set for 2 speaker or for 4 or 6 speakers out? The mic and line in will only work in the 2 speaker setup because the other setups use the mic and line jack get used for the extra speakers.

I don't have a setting for different speakers. I have three connection ports on my board, mic, line in and speaker. I have the speaker in the speaker port and the mic in the mic port.

the audio for this board is Realtek 6-channel CODEC S/PDIF in/out interface - did you load the software from the cd for the motherboard?
Did you read page 122 (chapter 5.3.6 - page 5-24) of the manual? It describes exactly what I meant about the speaker setup.

I had not read that page, but that feature is not loading. I have tried twice. All the feature except sound man are loaded.

Then you need to load it and configure your sound card properly.

Thanks for your answer, it helped a lot. I had reinstalled the driver but not from a clean slate. It still did not install as it should but it is working now.

Just for the next
Just for the next time, what happened is very simple: i also have that problem with almost every onboard sound driver in some aplications, olde aplications like Unreal Tournament, etc...
The reason is because we you have upgraded to Win XP, the driver was replaced by one that XP Home install has, that is MS Certified. It works perfectely in almost programs, but not in others.
The solution is the usual:
1º go get the updated drivers at asus (www.asus.com)
2º Uninstall the old driver (check had/remove programs, and if it isnt there just go to device manager and uninstall the hardware)
3º run the auto-install drivers from Asus.
Greetings from the Country of Sun.... and fire.
