Ok windows default refers to the silly noises it makes when you do something wrong. The audio sounds like its all correct.
Question, what coloured jack is the speakers plugged into? and are the speakers powered?

Um, actually ok now I feel silly lol, what it turned out to be was the speakers (see me blush with embarrassemnt here). I tried 3 different types of speakers I had here, the third pair I struck gold I got sound. I am not hearing system sounds but not really sure I want to, especially those annoying mistake ones lol
Guess it just shows sometimes we make things out to be more complicated then we think they are, thank you everyone for your help and sorry to bother you with something like this, but it has been a learning experience but I am one of those people who do learn from my mistakes.
Thanks everyone

No problem - do you want to work on the system sound problem now?
If you go back to control panel - sound and multimedia and this time choose change sound scheme then click on an event that produces sound (one with the speaker by it) and at the bottom next to the word browse you will see a play icon... click it, does that work?
