Thanks for the help so far I tried belarc and sadly it came up blank for the multimedia part of it and the modem. But, that got me thinking and I ran sisoft sandra which gave me a pretty detailed model number for the mother board which could help more than a little. I will still be fighting the good fight I guess.. So let me know if you have any more ideas and thanks again.

have u tried win updates , to get the drivers (with external modem)? ,,,,
what is the modem No ?
what make is the sound board?

It does not detect the make of the sound board and thats the problem I dont care much about the modem i really need sound. Win update does have them either.

Driver Terrier
intel 815 chipset, ac97 sound....possibly AD1881A sound

got it, go here, select notebooks then pcg-fx310. when the page displays, on the left, click original drivers. Ps there is an update on the first page you come to for sound if needed as well.
