ok, been playing around, downloaded display driver from fujitsu web site, still no joy, but on playing around this message came up.
display properties. at this time display properties are limited to trouble shooting change only. and it goes on to say that once you have restated successfully you will be able to change settings.
I hope from this someone may be able to help.
this is a lifebook B2031, and the adapter is NeoMagicGraph128XD.
    THANKS
    michael

I don't see that model number at their site.
Anyway, this usually means the driver didn't initialize properly.
Have you rebooted to see it works right?
If not, you may have to reinstall the driver.
Let us know and if that is a correct model (perhaps it is another country model #).

Windows may very well have got confus-ed ... depends just what you did with the downloaded driver.

What you needed to do was to open device manager & update the drivers of whatever it had decided was your video card.

I suspect you may now have two instances of a video controller present in device manager, have a look & tell us.

OK, here we go again ;-)display readings
adapter; standard PCI Graphics Adapter (VGA)
    monitor; Fujitsu 1554G+
    performance set at none
colour management; diamond Compatible 9300K G2.2

I have no idea if any of the above are correct, bar the monitor which I took off the Fujitsu web site.
I have tryed downloading most things from the windows web site with no joy.
What I now is a small screen which will not go up from 16 colour and 680x680. and as stated the laptop once said it was stuck in trouble shooting mode.
I have checked the device manage and nothing was double booked. The only ? was on a PCI Mulimede device which I have disabled
I hope this gives you some leads,
    michael

    Try this:
Extract the video driver download in a special folder named Fujitsu Video.
Go to Device Manager and right click on the listed Standard PCI Video and choose Properties.
Then choose update driver and point to the extracted video driver download and choose OK/Apply.
Tell us what happens or whether there is some other problem.

and as stated the laptop once said it was stuck in trouble shooting mode.
Err what o/s is this ?

There's 'vga mode/vga failsafe' in xp which is kind of 1/2 way to safe mode, it doesn't load video drivers, but does others, that can come about if there's some kind of 'terminal' mismatch in resolutions and screen sizes, maybe that's why we are so confus-ed !

Please tell us just what video device is listed under video adapters in device manager.

    ??

One thing we learned from this: "colour"!
Is this a Brit or Aussie model laptop?

I have tryed downloading most things from the windows web site with no joy.
What Windows web site are you talking about?
