    Question Can't adjust bass and treble

    Greetings all!

    I seek guidance...

    I have installed a CT4740 (Sound Blaster 16 PCI) card on an Intel based clone running Win98SE and am experiencing a strange problem. While playing an audio CD, I am unable to change the bass and treble. The sliders move...but the sound does not change. When playing wav sounds (such as mp3s) the adjustments work fine. I have tried 2 different CD-ROM units, 2 different CD-ROM to sound card cables, drivers from Creative, even tried a CT4810 card, and yet the problem persists. The previous sound card (AWE64 ISA) did not have this problem, nor do any of my other PCs with sound cards.

    The Creative tech support people were nearly useless. This problem is driving me crazy...any suggestions?

    Welcome to WinDrivers.

    My first thought would be see if Digital Cd Audio is enabled in the Properties of the CD-ROM driver in Device Manager. If so, try unchecking the option, in case the digital bypasses the tone controls in those Sound Blaster cards.

    Thanks for the suggestion. I had already checked for that but unfortunately the 'Enable Digital Audio' option is grayed out with both the Toshiba CD-ROM and the off brand unit I swapped it for. I can only assume this means it is unavailable for those two units, and therefore, already off.

    I have checked and re-checked for any option that could possibly be causing this and have come up empty. Very frustrating, especially since Creative tech support seems clueless. I mean, THEY DESIGNED THE DAMN THING AND IT'S DRIVERS; shouldn't they be the experts on troubleshooting it?? grrrrrrrrr LOL

    Unfortunately, Creative support ain't what it used to be. These days, you can get a genric C-Media sound card for about $10, that will support up to 6 channel sound with better quality than the old soundblaster stuff. And CMI still updates drivers regularly.

    When you say its greyed out, is it still ticked but greyed?

    That's a good question...and as I recall, I believe it was not ticked.
