connecting to internet with ppc and cellphone

I do not want to use a cable to connect the two, and i know where to get dialing properties on the ppc. WHat i need are the specific properties for the dialing properties, let me breakk it down
LEts say the number needed to dail is "##8*9" it actually is somethinhg like that, the ppc becuz of the dial up properties would put the area code and "1" before the number, so it would dial "1+ area code+ ##8*9". So yall see the problem right?



I need to know how can i go about connecting my pocket pc to the internet using my cellphones wirless modem through infrared.
I already have the number and all other relavant set up information, BUT
i need to know how to configure the dialing properties of the ppc as it places a "+0" infront of the number to dial

Don't know that I've ever heard of anyone doing it via infrared. You would need some kind of intermediary software to get the two speaking the same language. Depending on your cell phone and ppc models, the best bet would be to get a cable connecting the two. Take a look at http://www.thesupplynet.com/

As far as dialing properties, go to settings/connections/connections/dialing locations/dialing patterns

A simpler option would be to get either a PCMCIA or compact flash NIC for the PPC that can access the cellphone network directly. I know this can be done for the CDMA2000/1X network (Verizon). I don't know about the GSM/GPRS side (ATT, T-Mobile).

It would be more expensive though. Verizon has it for 80$/month.



What I plan to do is get a CF wireless NIC and use available APs to surf.

As a former AT&T Wireless employee, I know as a fact that you can definately do it with infrared, but it doesn't work very well. A better solution is bluetooth or a cable. But there's more important things to be concerned with...

Who is your cellular carrier? I know with ATTWS if someone tried to dial up and connect wirelessly using their "unlimited nights and weekends" then they could get into some serious billing trouble. I had a customer once who racked up a $2000 bill (and no thats not a typo). They don't charge per minute at ATTWS. You have to make sure to get a data plan. Data plans at ATTWS are currently $79.99 for unlimited access. They charge starting at $.03 p/kb. The better the plan, the cheaper it gets in terms of dollars p/kb. Verizon charges per minute, but it ends up working out the same as ATTWS's per kb rate. T-mobile has unlimited data for around $39.99 last time I looked. However, you have to have the right kind of phone depending on which carrier. GSM service has the best data, but a smaller network footprint.

ATTWS: GSM/TDMA
Verizon: CDMA
Cingular: GSM and limited TDMA on the east coast
T-mobile: GSM
Sprint: CDMA

Also,.. getting back to the original question,.. what kind of phone is it? Some phones have decent infrared,.. and some don't.

Also,.. ATTWS has a bulletin board forum like this one that would better be able to help you with this problem. I'm not sure which carrier you have, but maybe your cellular carrier has a board to post on too.
