[RESOLVED] Win98 + Zip drive
I got a PIII with 256MB RAM and Win98. Trying to install a ZIP drive - it's recognised in the BIOS at boot up but Windows thinks it's drive B. I cannot get it to see a ZIP drive. Not in Device Manager either although Properties of drive B says it IS a ZIP!
Any ideas?????

Newer bios have the option of having the zip drives as b: drive. I don't remember off hand how it is worded in the bios but normally you can turn this function on or off. btw, the zip is fine as drive b:

Yes - thanks RGKO. Forgot to say that I can't access ZIP disk, causes PC to freeze and in My Computer the drive B icon is a floppy, not normal icon for ZIP.

I have seen this prob many times. Try installing later software for the ZIP drive. you can get it from http://www.iomega.com

Thanks Darren. I did as you said and yes, it put a Zip icon in My Computer and gave me the chance to change the drive letter, which I did, but it didn't hold it after re-booting. I'm now back with the original software as I tried using the latest I downloaded but only Microsoft Backup was available to use! So now I can use IOMEGA tools etc, access the ZIP disks (although icon still is of a floppy) and run a backup. But it hasn't solved anything. Device Manager says I have a Zip drive, My Computer says I don't! Am I going mad??

check the jumper setting on the drive itself....i have noticed that some zip drive will have 2 setting for master and slave(i do not remeber what the option titles are now) but one of the setting would make it look like a floppy...the other makes it look like the zip on other drive letters...i have never understood the purpose of that other setting, but some have it.
hope that is it.
