    One last question.. (If you haven't already noticed, I'm slightly technologically challenged, so I hope this isn't another dumb question on my part ) If it tells me in the Device Manager that Windows cannot install the driver for my CD-R/RW because it is either corrupted or missing, if I reinstalled Windows, would it replace the driver as well, allowing it to be installed? I hope I don't sound like a total idiot asking this.

    That is by no means a stupid question. You should be able to do a repair install. That should replace all the drivers native to Windows XP.
