I'd say things like this are often cured by flashing the motherboards bios (that's where the routines that decode any devices geometry & therefore recognition live) & many writers only like to work correctly when connected as 'slave' on an ide channel of their own with many combinations of other drives present ..

That's what I would try first. Try the different combos by changing the jumper settings. You also may want to try a new IDE cable just to be sure.

hey,
The software is irralevant, you can't see the drive in my computer and not in device manager.
The thing is on a cold boot he sometimes does everything ok (he recognize it) and other times not.
I have a asus P4P800-vm motherboard and the bios hasen't been flashed.
The lite-on is on the second ide with my plextor cd writer.
I'm gonna try the suggestion of putting the lite-on as slave
I will let you guys know if it worked

hey
the lito-on was already slave and the plextor is master.
I haven't got time to experiment a lot because of work, but i am ganna try it with lite-on as master
