Unhappy Win 98 SE setup problem

Installing Win 98 SE over Win 95 SR2 on an AMD Athlon 700, Abit mainboard, All-In-Wonder 128 video. Installation hangs during hardware setup. Reboot gives "windows protection error". Another reboot works but gives error message something about video and has fuzzy resolution on VGA. Reinstall gives same problems.

Not sure best next step- put in old video card and install, install from DOS, install from CAB files on hard drive. Installation takes so long I would like some advice. Would installing from DOS preserve old Win 95 configuration? Thanks for any help.

Do you have the upgrade copy or the $20 copy.
If you the upgrade copy, you could format your hard drive, after you back up what you wanted to keep, install the upgrade and use your win 95 cd as a verification to install win 98 SE. With this ,you will not have the old Win 95 files. Have you Checked Abit in there lastest BIOS Ver. Aslo, check Microsoft knowledge Base article Q149962 on windows protection error messages! Cobrajet

sounds like its the ati drivers, i've had multiple problems with windows protection errors and ati drivers....I'd just install your other video card, do the install, then install your ati card, make sure you have updated drivers downloaded first
