    Question ezdrive and formatting

when using a disk software like ezdrive when re-formatting is the hard drive still at risk for viruses. in other words can saving time using this utility still allow viruses to survive just like a quick format?

My guess would be a drive overlay just redoes the FAT table to a blank one so the stuff is still on it. But the virus would have to be activated somehow. To be safe I would do it the long way

Even formatting might not cure a virus laying in the MBR of a hard drive. Make sure you cold boot off a write protected system disk. If possible reformat the drive on a system with a updated scanner in place. I had a sneeky virus from 1992 live through a reformat with a cold boot off diskette. As soon as the HD would power up this bug wrote itself to memory and placed itself on any writable disk. After the format and reinstall the virus was still there.
