My INTEL was around 1.4gb, And i wanted to burn it on 2 CD's (Not DVD's), because some of the computer i deal with does not have a DVD/DVD-R drive.....
Anyway - a quick tip - i disable the swap file before i make the image (Windows creates it when you run windows first anyway), and that save a few hundreds of megas in the image size :O)
Haven't you had a problem with so called "Currupted" Images from time to time, Even that the image was fine, i just copied it to another folder and read it from there ?

When Usin Acronis I get "corrupted" from time to time - but it tells me it when creating the image - so it is not a big problem. I still prefer Acronis on Ghost. It works faster and have far better compression Ratio.

I get it when i try to restore the image....if i get it during creation of image, i re-image it, I can't live with the idea that my image is not perfectly made....

From my "vast experience"
You would be surprised with what you can live...
Its always a best practice to do verify on any form of backup (Yes I know Image is not exactly a backup more DRP or deployment plan).
