Question Card for good hardware DVD playback?

Need some advice.

In relation to my 'DVD playback' topic under the CD-ROM forum, I have decided to upgrade my video card from a TNT2 M64 card to something a bit more powerful, since I'm not real excited about it's gaming performance, either.

Any good video cards out there for gaming and DVD hardware decoding, without a huge price tag?

Thanks!

Check out ATI Radeon cards. There are a variety of models available for about $80 and up.

I agree with Eagle. The Matrox G450, or if more budget concious, the G400 is great for DVD, 2D and acceptable 2D. I don't game, so the G400 works great for me. Dual head support is great.

You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means.

I've got the ATI Radeon VE. It's DVD playback and the ATI DVD software are great. I'm using the 4.13.7075 ATI Driver and the Radeon Tweaker program (I have the card core and memory speeds at 183 - rock stable). Since I'm not a gamer this card is great for me (I can't answer for it's gaming prowless). I got the card from www.newegg.com for $83 included shipping about 3 months ago (probably cheaper now).

Thumbs up

Since I am a gamer, I think I'll go with Geforce.

Leadtek GeForce2 MX SH Max (MX-400) 64Mb ~$90 @ NewEgg.com. Don't think I can go wrong with this.

Anyone had any problems with NewEgg? Never used them before, so I don't want to jump in head first. Someone had posted a site that had reviews of different vendors, what is that link again?

Thanks guys!

Radeon or any of the Rage Pro chipsets for DVD Playback. If you want to have a good games system then the Radeon is more than recommended. The DVD playback properties of the Radeon are as good as a home DVD player.

If you game, then I would definatley look at one of the ATI Radeon cards. The Radeon 32MB AGP DDR can be found fairly cheaply now. If you are primarily concearned about the DVD and standard apps such as MS Office and web browsing then look into either the Matrox G400 or G450.
My brain went into standby mode and I can't get it to wake up, is there a BIOS patch for this?

I have always loved the way the Matrox G400 Max looked...
