Wrong keyboard driver, Qdoc? It could cause this.
I've seen similar problems with laptops mostly.

Have you checked the installed keyboard layouts and languages?
Does this problem occur when switched to Greek or English keyboard?

i've checked and it happens in both languages
in english windows though it doesn't happen.
i think i'll try with the keyb drivers for now
    and see what happens.

Just tell me what happened, so that in case the problem still persists we'll try to find a work around, OK?

Glad to see you too, my Greek friend!

It sounds like you are wanting to do this and not trying to prevent from doing this. If you are wanting to change the mapping on that, you can do it on the hardware end through the keyboard matrix. Inside your keyboard you will find a floppy piece of plastic. Take the two traces from the , key and "erase" (usually by scraping the trace away with a knife) the traces and then take a conductor pen and connect them to the traces from the . key. Then do it the same way with the . traces and the , key. It may sound difficult but it is rather easy.

ok, let me describe what exaxtly happens.
what i'm going to decribe happens only in greek
windows , or when your are using the greek language in win2k

when you press the [del/.] key on the keypad you get the [,] symbol instead of [.]

this brings us to what the customer needs.

with the change in euros the greek point [,] had to be changed to [.] when you want to quickly type a sum you use the keypad so if you use it now you still get the [,] .big problem for those acountants ...
well if you can think of something more , i'd be glad.
good thing is i don't have to worry about delivering a result in the next couple of weeks.

how are things on athens ?

I see your point now Qdoc.

Aplustech's idea is pretty smart, although I think I should find a Win2K-based machine and check it for myself too.

I performed a quick check on a Greek WinXP-based machine. No problems found. The comma (,) and the full stop (.) were mapped correctly even when I switched to Greek. I've also checked the Regional Settings and manually changed those symbols. No difference at all.
Tell me something. Does this problem occur under the command prompt, or under Windows. In other words, what kind of program they use? A DOS-based or a Windows-based one? If the program runs under DOS prompt take a look at this:
    <a href="http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;Q291326" target="_blank">http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;Q291326</a>

Something else now. Are both Win2K Service Packs installed? If not, I suggest you install them both.

Just tell me what happens, OK?

Off the topic, things in Athens are almost OK. Although the weather is driving us crazy, it's pretty fine.

the behaviour is the same in both command line and gui.
it happens in 9x also so service packs are something we should not worry.
on the other hand the article on microsoft knowhow seems promising.
    ..
    update
the article refers to a similar problem only in 2k though.

You said it happens under Win9x too. I didn't know that. Now we're dealing with something else here and I'm pretty sure it's not a software-related problem. Since you checked the keyboard drivers, the regional settings and another operating system I don't think there's another software trick you can do.
Tell me something. Have you tried another keyboard?

What about the Euro Conversion Tool? available from Microsoft Windows Update, under the "Recommended Updates section". Have you tried that?

There's no need for that tool. Win98, 2K and XP support Euro (&#8364 ) .
The problem is some keys on the keyboard. The fullstop (.) and the comma (,).

These punctuation marks are used differently in Greek. Vice-versa.

    Numbers in English:
    1,000,000 One million
    20,000,000 Twenty million
    1.5 One and a half
    2.5 Two and a half

    Numbers in Greek:
    1.000.000 One million
    20.000.000 Twenty million
    1,5 One and a half
    2,5 Two and a half
