    Resolved [RESOLVED] Internet Explorer 5.5

    Hi

Does any one have any idea why my IE 5.5 will not allow me to download or activate the buttons in Windows update. When there is a mouse over a "Javascript Void (0)" message appears at the bottom of the browser.

    Hi.

Go to Tools, Internet Options, Security and select the Default Level.

    Hope this helps.

    Good luck.

Do you have the original IE5.5 installation files?
If so, you should install it over.

I personally have had all kinds of problems with Java in all versions of IE from 4.0 up and my answer to it is to use Netscape

    Well I have re-installed IE.
Carried out the suggestions in KB Q193385.

    Still the same problem :-(

    Have now contacted MS support.
I shall post their comments if they reply.

    go to internet options
under the general tab>>temporary internet files, choose settings.
    click view objects.
make sure that nothing in there is being reported as diabled or corrupted.
if it is... delete it and try the update again.

There is not a JAVA VM category but there is Microsoft VM which contains 3 Java settings which are all ticked.

    Not working :-[

I have checked all objects - all appear ok.
Tempory internet files have been flushed.
    Cookies removed.

    Not working :-[

Well Keith I guess you should back up your data and format the drive
and I would type format c:/u to ensure any data is erased
Make sure your cd rom disk has no scratches or thumb prints on it before you reinstall
Are You running 98 or ME , I would stick with 98 , I tried ME and M$ wanted to hold my hand while I worked my computer ( System restore , PC Health , both are resource hogs )
Sometimes the only way to correct your type of problem is with a reinstall

    Thumbs up

    Well guys A FIX

Before reformatting I decided to wait for the response from MS.

Here it is - and it worked :-)_

    1. Go to this link
    http://www.microsoft.com/msdownload/.../scripting.asp
    2. At the bottom of this page you will see a link (scr55en.exe) click on
    this

Directly after it downloads, it will prompt you to install, proceed with
    this install.

Next lets download the latest Virtual Machine, the steps below will take you
to an alternate site for this download.

    Install the latest Virtual Machine:

1 Go to http://www.microsoft.com/java/vm/dl_vm40.htm to download the
    newest version of Virtual Machine.
2 On this page scroll down and click on the link "Microsoft VM build 3319
for Window 95/98 and Windows NT 4.0" to start the
    download.
3 It will download a file called msjavx86.exe. Make sure double click on
    this file to install it.

I hope that this will help somebody else in the future.

    Did I read that right?

You have problems with java in IE, so you use Netscape for java?

    Wow, that's a new one!
