I for another am glad that they stopped giving support for it, it was buggy and BSOD'd all the time. Maybe now people will get a real os like 2k or XP or linux even

Where I work, we still have several systems running Windows 95 (yes, 95!), and for the most part have little to no problems with them. However, the PCs that we have running Windows 98 seem to always have some sort of problem. Particularly when shutting down. Always BSOD or just hangs on "Please wait while Windows shuts down". Lot of time its due to the mapped network drives, which MS has a fix for it, and it doesn't work. We have a batch file that disconnects the network drives, it helps a lot (when the users remember to use it!) The new systems that we are getting are Win2k, and they are rock solid! Never lock up, BSOD, or anything. Worst problem we had was not giving the users enough rights or something like that.
So as far as Im concerned, let 98 go and long live Win2k!

It's about time, I wish M$ would drop all 16 bit support! It's time to burry the PATCH OF A PATCH OF A PATCH to Win3.0!

I've said "Hello!" to Mandrake 8.2 and I'm not looking back. Product "activation" and the incessant asking for me to sign up for a Passport really turned me off. I'll work on customer's computers with XP and even sell computers with XP but it will never be on my personal machines, business or otherwise. Microsoft and the never-ending Windows Update patching will not be missed. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="wink.gif" />

Don't forget! Any Linux product will need updated patches for security or bugs too!!

I've been using the same programs, written for Win95 and then Win98, for seven years. I'm used to them. They're part of me. I can't afford the time and energy to learn new ones, nor can I stop my work to do so.
Everyone tells me: "Get a new computer", "Get a new operating system", "Get new programs".
Why, if the old ones work?

If it isn't broken don't fix it.

If I'm satisfied with 98 why change? As far as I'm concerned there isn't anything I need from XP or 2k that 98 can't do except automatic file recovery.
That really is one drawback of 98, but I have backup disks to handle that.
Just my 2¢

I have to agree. Have 98se on 2 home computers and never any problems. Most crashes I've had caused by hardware. I have the patched on cdr if I have to re-install. Bought them here so no need to download. 5 disc set with lots of drivers and other programs.

And even if you don't like 98 or use it, you have customers, friends and family that do and if you are the go to guy it's easier to have the tools at hand to fix their problem.

BTW, Microsoft DOES still service Win98. I just downloaded two critical updates this evening. Here is the link

You can still get updates for windows 95 too.
Never, ever approach a computer saying or even thinking "I will just do this quickly."
