This is an Intel Celeron 600 with a 10GB HD. I partitioned it with one Primary DOS partition. When Win 98 Install failed, I tried to partition it into two drives, Primary Dos and Extended Dos and tried to Install Win 95 but got the same error. Now I am back at square one trying to install win 98 with a Fat32 Partition. This system has never had anything on it. It is brand new, lady had it sitting in a box. There is also a message to try loading EMM386.exe into config.sys but I only get this message sometimes. Help, this is driving me crazy!

Isn't anyway you can use different chip of memory? Usually when I had problems during the install, it was bad memory.
Let mo know.

The only times I have had problems and any sort of error messages during the OS installation was when I had bad memory chip.
Good Luck!
If this doesn't solve the issue..we will try something else

try booting with a win98 startup disk. Goto the ADD/REMOVE programs icon under the control panel, and click the startup disk option. This boot disk will load an extended memory manager (probably emm386 and hymem, but I've never really checked) Which will get you started.

This might be tough to do before he installs windows.

You should be able to get a win98 bootdisk from here and run setup from your CD drive. If this is what you're doing already, and it's failing, then you should try the standard procedure for a failing Windows install.

You will want to change some things inside your BIOS. Disable and automatic AV programs, as well as any CPU external cache related entries. Write down what you change though! If this doesn't help, try removing all the extra cards from your computer and try it then. Only keep your video card, CPU, Floppy Drive, CD Drive, HDD, and memory. If you're still failing, try another CD. if the problem persists, then you will have to swap out memory, CPU, motherboard, etc., until you find the culprit.
