    Post DEFRAG ERROR

A guy I work with tried to defrag and this error message came up:

    I.D. NO: DEFRAG006.
windows can not defragment this drive because it cannot access part of the
drive. Run scan disk(choose the through option), etc...

Does anyone know a fix for this??

    Any help would be appreciated!

Run scandisk from the DOS Mode. Then boot back into windows and close all programs that are running in the the back ground so that all that you have running is explorer & systray. Then run Defrag. You probably have a TSR that is accessing your harddisk.

    msilaski has it right.

You may also be able to run Scandisk under safe mode, but DOS is safest.

It has worked for me a number of times in the past.

    Cool

Just an FYI. The DOS version of Scandisk does not fix long file name errors. If you still experience errors after the DOS run then boot to Safe Mode and run the Windows version.
