    Post registry problem on bootup

    greetings-
every time I boot Win 95, I get a message that "windows encountered an error accessing the system registry."

When I click on the restore button, it tells me that windows can not restore my registry.

Anyway, this system will not boot up into windows at all.

I have run scandisk on this drive many times.

    Any suggestions?

    Al

Every time I have seen this error, I have ended up reloading the PC or Ghosting it. The OS is fubar.

I know the Microspft Knowledge Base can be a pain but occaisionally you get an article that helps.

Check out http://support.microsoft.com/support.../Q131/4/31.asp and see if that helps.

If you do have to format the drive and the problem comes back again. Replace the Ram.
Would you like fries with that?

take another drive and do an install on it first. don't wipe the customers machine until you know it will fix it. This way, even if you have to wipe it, you can just backup their data to the good install on the other drive and ghost the whole thing to their drive.

Have you tried using a 'scanreg /restore' from a Safe Mode Command Prompt? That can clear a lot of problems like this. Also, it's a little known fact, but you can use REGEDIT from DOS to regenerate the Registry from its last backup. I have four neat batch files that do this if you want them. [email protected]

I wish I could turn down the intelligence level of some clients' computers. There's a button on the monitor marked brightness, but it doesn't quite have the desired effect
