[RESOLVED] memory beeping mobo problem

I have p3 450 ibm system, 100mhz fsb, is the motherboard supposed to accept only ibm type memory? when i put a module of a different brand (yes, it is the correct type of memory) i just hear short beeps and nothing happens. Is there a way to override this problem through the bios or anything?

You shouldn't need any special 'brand' of RAM. Try your RAM in another system and try a different memory stick of the same size on this motherboard. Most likely, either the stick you have is bad or not seating properly.

It's not at all unusual for a particular memory module to refuse to work in a computer, especially an IBM or Compaq. The motherboards that these large national-brand computer makers use are notoriously picky about the RAM that is used in them. Your RAM might not be bad - like sowulo said, try the RAM in a different computer, preferably not an IBM or Compaq. Most memory suppliers understand these problems and will exchange the RAM for RAM with chips of a different brand. It sounds strange, but it may cure your problem.
