Abit BE6 and 1GHz PIII?
The specs say this motherboard maxes out at 850MHz, but I was wondering if bumping up the multiplier to 10x for a 1GHz PIII would work? Anyone know for certain?

Unless you have an engineering sample P3 1 gig 133 FSB the multiplier is locked at 7.5 so 750 MHZ would be top speed at 100 MHZ FSB.

Not necessarily. There was a 1GHz PIII in the slot 1 form factor with a 100MHz f.s.b.
Check and see if the board supports a 10x multiplier....

True, But Sowulo, those processors are very rare.. i think there are more Alien ubduction reports than than those CPU's.... I was looking for that same CPU about 5 months back, and could not get a lead on one anywhere

If you looked hard enough and long enough, you might find a 100mhz BUS PIII 1ghz.
But You'd probably end up spending almost as much trying to find one, then buying a new mobo and CPU (especially if you gave into the dark side and went to an AMD platform)

It was for my Dad(mobo was an Asus p3b-f).. he's got a p3 600 katmai and was looking to upgrade, He's not keen on replacing the mobo cause everything works perfectly as-is. I've stop looking, if i see anything, great, if not, o well, he's hppy with what he's got.

As far as finding a 100MHz PIII... Here's where I was going to get mine:
http://www.bananapc.com/Products/product_info.asp?product_id=1684&classif_id=351
I've already done business with these guys. They're extremely prompt and don't overcharge on the shipping.
Now back to the topic at hand:
Assuming I have a 1GHz PIII (100MHz FSB), and the motherboard supports a 10X multiplier (the BE6 does), then this should work, right?
