    Unhappy Modem.CPl Problem?

I am trying to remove a modem from my device manager (Win98) and when I go to remove my modem or go to the properties I get the following message "Setup Cannot load installer (modem.cpl) for the modem hardware being installed." As a result I cannot remove the modem.I also tried this under safe mode and it's doing the same thing. Someone help me please!

have you physically removed the modem? If not I'd shut down, yank it out and restart the machine.

Go into add/remove programs and uninstall any driver that is related to your modem.
If that doesn't work, then go to start/find and type in *.cpl, and delete the cpl that is related to your modem.
If that doesn't work, then please read Shamus' Reply.

Also you might want to check for cpl in the registry if the above doesn't work. I'd only do that if you are comfortable with it. Also backup the keys you are deleting first just in case.
