hanging PC
Hi there all from Sunnyville.
I have finaly gotten my pc\mobo(can't see what the PC's problem is as I can see it very clearly, been looking at it for 2 weeks) to see the modem and actually dial, only little glitch is, as soon as it makes a connection to the remote server(ISP), it hangs, bang solid, and requires a reboot which naturally cuts my connection. I am using IE5. Any suggestions before I slit my wrists!! Just as a bit of extra info, when you dial with phone dialer to test the line, the connection is also made and then cut. All suggestions will be attempted. Thanx.

Try taking the modem out, replace it in a different PCI slot, that way it will assign a new IRQ and stuff. Then try upgrading the driver or reinstalling it if there are no upgrades.
Hope it helps.

I have had this happen with PCMCIA modem cards and have just swapped them out with identical cards and everythig worked fine.Bad PC caards in my case.Maybe the same for you also.I never had to reinstall the drivers either. So that narrowed it down to a HW problem.Just my $.02

Thanks chaps
I actually think there is a problem with my slots because the modem I am using to send this reply came out of that machine and it works fine. I did however slow the rate down and it seemed to take a bit longer to hang. It let me load the whole windrivers page, before it hung. Strange though, it should have cached the page?? I am going to try a re-install of win 98 and then go and get a new mobo. That is the only thing I have not replaced. New hdd, simms and modem. While in win98 and not connected, the pc works great, no hang ups etc, play cd's, tomb raider, no problem, but log on and that's where the paw-paw hits the fan. Thanks for all the tips, I will try all of them.

Mr.Miyagi, you have definately got to try IE6.I thought the same as you did about any ver of IE.But 6 is much better.I'm running it on both 98,and 2k machines.Give it a whirl.

What works for one person doesn't allways work for another.
I personally like IE 6.0 for both win 2K and 98
I hope that someday we will be able to put away our fears and prejudices and just laugh at people.
