Resolved [RESOLVED] INF files to install drivers? how?

i notice that many drivers i have downloaded have an .inf file which is supposed to initialize the setup- when i double click these, it pops up in notepad - when i right click and choose install, it says i do not have a program associated with this action- i am using windows 98 on a celeron333 - can anyone help me out by suggesting which program i should specify as the one which should "install" these files? i know how to do it, i just dont know which program i should specify, and the settings to use for it - help, please?

*.inf files are the driver files themselves - what kind of device are you trying to install? If you download a driver package with a setup.exe, all it usually does is associate the inf driver files with the device. Try going into device manager and updating the driver for whatever it is you are trying to install. When it asks where to look for the driver, point to the folder you downloaded it to.

    Hope that makes sense
