Is this with all cds?
Some sound card programs can disable auto insert... They can have it auto play music cds but not data or visa versa. How long do you wait? depending on you system, it may take a while for the sampling to detect the cd
Is DMA checked for the CDRom? If so uncheck it, restart then try it, or visa versa.
check your sound card settings!
