    Hi.

I have been DESPERATELY trying to install WinXP on my system and no matter what I try I can't get it to work.

Has anyone else been having problems with this mobo but managed to fix it?

The problem is that once the installation begins, the system restarts and basically goes into a boot cycle. Sometimes I get blue screens.

Yes, I've tried everything. Here's a list of (few) things I've tried:

    - BIOS ver is updated
    - I disconnected everything leaving just drives and video
    - Tried different memory types
    - Tried different video cards
    - Fooled around with various BIOS settings such as Power Management, memory speed, CPU Internal & External cache
    - ... and lots of other stuff!!

I am convinced that I should buy a new mobo but I read somewhere that WinXP can be installed successfully on this mobo.

PLEASE, PLEASE. ANY help will be greatly appreciated on this. If you need any other info on this I would be glad to provide it for you.

    Many thanks,
    Phoebus

No, this mobo isn't listed in the Windows Hardware combatibility list but to tell you the truth I don't really care about that, I don't think it's that important.

I've used a lot of devices which are not in that list and they worked fine. Furthermore, Shuttle's website says that my mobo does work with WinXP.

I'm sure it's gotta be some BIOS setting, I just have to find it!

I would contact Microsoft Technical Support and ask them. I will cost about $35.00 per incident but if you need it, you need it.

Before doing this I would check Microsoft's knowledge base under searchwords 'XP' and 'installation.' Someone else might be having the same problem as you. You might be able to find a write-up about your problem there.

    Welcome to Windrivers Forums, anigno!

If you have the same problem and system is more than 2 years old, I would suspect:
    1. Bad capacitors on MB (I've seen them a lot on those boards).
    2. Same bad caps inside the power suplly (if it is a cheap PSU).
    3. Bad memory stick (sticks) - some bad bits. Usually it cause stops with BSOD with message "cannot copy file XXXX.XXX".
    4. Bad sectors on harddrive (usually cause re-boots).

    pc checked

I had checked the entire pc with pc-check 5.50,
    everything was OK.
installation halted with the windows 2000 screen (graphic one), while installing I pressed F5 and choosed "standard pc", but still, nothing.
color the p3 blue and throw it to the ocean, I say.

    thank, anyway
