wont connect online
Have HP pavillion w/ME Given to me trying to get online w/Comcast
Already have another computer workin fine.
Computer times out before connection.
Have router w/cable modem works fine.
Contacted Comcast, no help, not their modem, but I think it is a comcast problem not recognizing the second computer.
Suggestions? Dan

dankar, if you are connecting through a router, that is the only device Comcast's network will see. You might have problems with your IP addressing on the ME machine. Click Start, Run, then type winipcfg. When the window opens, click on the drop down button at the top of the screen, select your network adapter (not the PPP Dialup adapter) and post your results. We also need information about the operating system you run on the other computer and your router make and model.
BTW, where are my manners? (I'll thank current members to stop laughing now.) Welcome to WinDrivers, dankar! It's possible we may ask you a few more questions to get this issue resolved. Hang in there, and we'll get you connected ASAP.

I think you are confusing hardware terms. If the computer running xp works when you plug it in to the modem, then the one running Me should work also. If you're trying to connect more than one at a time, you don't appear to have the correct hardware to do that. the befcmu10 is the modem. To connect more than one computer, you need a router.
The connection would go modem----router---computer one

..........................................computer two
Both can acces the internet at the same time.

Also, I would go into the command line of the Win ME machine and do a release / renew and a flushdns on the ip address. It has been a looong time since I worked with ME, so please forgive me when I cannot remember the exact keystrokes to do this. Your ME machine might have a static assigned IP address from the previous owner.
