Post win98 shows 2 megs RAM missing(?)

    p3-500@100fsb/384Ram-pc100/Win98

Win98 sysinfo shows only 382megs available RAM. Norton Utilities sysinfo shows also only 382megs. BIOS on bootup sees all 384megs and i've used a program to check the integrity of the RAM and found no errors. Two Crucial and one Kingston so I don't believe its the RAM chips. Any suggestions on how to find or recover this lost 2 megs of RAM?

sounds like a i810 or i815 based board that is using the 'missing' memory for onboard video card.

Sorry should've put up more specs.

    Intel (jabil) 440BX/ZX
AGP card (GeForce2) had a TNT2/M64 before that. No difference w/ memory missing when board was upgraded
On-board sound disabled. Was replaced w/ PCI sound card.
    Latest bios flashed in.

Anymore ideas I can check on? I know i'm just overlooking something.

    Thanks

Try taking a stick of memory out and seeing if it shows the correct amount then. If so , try swapping around, until it doesn't.

Check to see if DOS has assigned it as a cache to a CD-ROM drive or something. ie in the AUTOEXEC.BAT and CONFIG.SYS

Yes, see if SMARTDRV.EXE is loading in config.sys or autoexec.bat. Better yet, try temporarily renaming both files (if they exist) and boot that way. See if that helps.
