.vxd driver missing
Windows is looking for a missing .vxd file upon boot-up. Should I carefully delete it from the registry, or where can I look up the App. it came from to re-install or uninstall it?

Best thing to do is to re-install Windows. Do not re-format, but just re-install Windows again.
The quickest, effective, and easy way, IMHO.

Won't do a thing if the VXD belongs to an app and not Windows. Give us the error message and we can help better.

The error is a common one I think- "Cannot find device file that maybe needed to run Windows or a Windows Application. Win Registry or Sys.INI refers to this device file, but it no longer exists...", it suggests, using uninstall for the App. or reinstalling the App. but we don't know which one it belongs to. Thanks, y'all.

i would back up the registry and delete any strings that search finds called "dfs.vxd".
if there arnt any in the registry, search through windows.ini and system.ini for it, and just rem (or ; ) the line out.

1. Start menu
2. Run
3. type sfc
4. click OK
click on "Extract one file from installation disk"
5. type dfs.vxd
6. click Start button
7. type D:WIN98 (or E:, whatever your CD-ROM is)
8. Click OK

That error usually gives you the specific filename of the VXD it can't find e.g. vnetsup.vxd
