Unhappy DxDiag wont load

Whenever I try to load dxdiag from the run command or just by clicking a link it will load in the backround but the dxdiag screen will not come up. This all arose from the problem that my games will play without sound but they won't with sound. If you can give me any help as to what to do it would be greatly appreciated. My last resort is reinstalling Windows.

Try removing your sound card and then running dxdiag. If it works then you can try an updated driver or perhaps a new card.

Go to the website of that sound card,DOWNLOAD THE VERY LATEST DRIVERS.Also see if thay have a driver remover utility.

Reboot into safe Mode and remove sound card drivers and remove card from the device manager.

reboot when windows starts it will auto detect sound card follow prompts till it asks you to let win auto search,DO NOT LET WIN AUTO SEARCH YOU TELL IT WERE THE DRIVER FILE IS.ie floppy,or c drive wearever you saved it.

load drivers reboot.

Also make sure the sound card is not on a irq with the video card,if you have agp never put a card below agp slot.

Dxdiag checks the frequency or refresh rate on start, if the file which does this is gone. that might stop it.
you installed windows didn't you?
