Outlook Express takes forever to start
When I start outlook express it takes forever to come up and if I do CTRL+ALT+DEL it says that it isn't responding. If I wait it will eventually come up but it stalls my comptuer. Other than that it is working ok. Anything I can do?

I have a 450mhz with 96mb of ram. I didn't start having this problem until yesterday when I posted my message on this site. I have had this system for almost a year now and this is the first time that this has happened. Is there a spot on MS website where I can get a patch or new version of outlook?

I had this problem for awhile in outlook express5. i found by deleting most of my inbox it helped. It stopped after i got a Norton antivirus 2000 update, so i think that was what was causing it. try disabling the antivirus and see if that helps(but only temporarily!!!)

You can save your mail folders by opening Explorer, C:/ Windows/ Application Data. Keep opening folders till you get to the Outlook express folder. In there you will find the DBX file(s) that contains your messages. Save the file(s) and insert it back into the same location after reinstalling. If you want to be safe you can rename it (then change it back when needed) so as not to accidentally delete it while uninstalling and reinstalling Outlook.

What i meant was try disabling the antivirus and then opening outlook express. Also, try it with the antivirus completely disabled after a reboot.

I have had this happen on several occasions and it usually involves the IMAGEHLP.DLL file being missing. Do a search for this file. You can also go to "Add/Remove" programs, select IE5 from the list, click remove and choose the option to repair. If this file is missing, it will indicate as so.
Hope this works!

I reinstalled IE and its components. Turns out I was missing that .dll file. Everything is working great now. Thanks for the help. Any idea on how I lost that file? I don't remember deletiing any .dll s recently.

I would bet that some poorly written program decided you didn't need that dll file anymore, when you installed/uninstalled it.
