This is one of the best, if not the best, converting video software.
I can find only one disadvantage with it. It has serious problems when dealing with .wmv movie files.

I love TmpgEnc. I already D/L the release.
As for your wmv, if you can't get it to work with TmpgEnc, try VirtualDub.
Get it <a href="http://www.virtualdub.org/" target="_blank">here.</a>
Note: To correct display problems, hold the "ALT"key and press"F4".

TMPGEnc starts the convertion normally, but it crashes after a few seconds. It's latest versions do not, but it takes ages to complete. Maybe 2 or 3 days!
I've heard that Nero does the trick having a WMV plug-in loaded. Haven't had the time to try it, yet.
Thanks for the tip. I'll try VirtualDub too.

Well, I tried VirtualDub yesterday without any success. Version 1.3 deals with .wmv files since the latest one displays an error message refusing to load the file because this format is registered to Microsoft only. Anyway.
The convertion was fast enough, but the file does not work properly. It's like running an mpeg file on Media Player and a codec is missing.
You hear the sound but the video comes misshapen.

If you have a ATI product try MMC v7.1. Captures striaght to MPEG! Makes perfect VCD's!!

Unfortunately I don't have an ATI product.
Anyway. Tmpegenc version 2.53 works fine for me. It converts .wmv to .mpg without any particular problem. No need to convert the video first and then the sound. And the best part is, it takes about 15mins to convert a video clip on my machine.

I appreciate the implications of what I am about to ask, and accept that the moderators may edit/delete this post; I am asking for valid reasons though !!!
Since you are discussing video editing , I have a slight problem - my dvd player is in the living room, the pc's with the dvd drives are in the study, but my kids would like to be able to watch their dvd's in their bedroom on their pc. I have been trying to work out how to rip a dvd to divx format so I can put the files on their pc, but havent really had much luck - can anybody point me in the direction of a real IDIOT's guide to doing this ???
I thank you in advance.
