pentium 4 is going to be much better next year because they will be run on fcpga2
and windows xp should have better support for them.

I worked where i had the opportunity to work with both Intel Chips and AMD Chips. After many months of testing (my way of testing is playing games and doing everyday things) on a P3 933 as a personal system and my current system a T-Bird 900 I found that AMD was always much faster and didn't give me errors in games like the Intel would. I would say that AMD is now the better choice but not a lot of apps need that much power anyways. I do like the ASUS A7V thats what I use because of the onboard ATA100. Its nice to start my system and 15 seconds later its in windows. the p3 never could do that.

Asus A7V w/ata100 onboard
384 Pc-100 SDRam
30 gig Western Digital 7200 ATA100
Voodoo 4 4500 AGP 4x
Turtle Beach Santa Cruiz Sound Card w/6 speaker Output.

OK, I'll humor you. Here's my computer's spec: P2/233,64MB,10GB,Matrox G200. My computer's performance is good.

Do yourself a favour and flip a coin. You can't go wrong with either IMHO. Just make sure you use a quality approved power supply and heatsink/fan and you'll be fine.

Although ddr is a better performer it still doesnt out way the cost involved. Since both the board and ram must support it, also your limited to quite a few boards. For your purposes the money is better invested in the video card.

Also I would stay away from P4s if I were you. for three reasons
1) Price is to high
2) Performance isnt anything special, Thunderbird wil run it in to the ground
3) It will all go obsolete when the new P4s come out since intel is reworking the interface between the chip and the board.
