    Thumbs up Buying M$ Office

When you want to buy MS Office but only need a few applications, DON'T buy the programs induvidually!

Instead buy one of the all in one packages, such as Small Business Edition or Standard edition..

It will save you a lot of money

I would also like to add that you should look and plan more into bying a product like that. Not only what is planned in the immediate future but as well as a couple years donw the road. Tak also consideration that Microsoft is planning to charge you more for Office XP if you don't upgrade by Ocotber 1 this year.

Also bear in mind that you can do almost everything with Staroffice 5.2 and it is compatible with M$Office 97 and 2000, even has a Powerpoint Presentation viewer, which you don't get with Office2000 SBE.

Also if you need just Word then get it in WorkSuite 2000 (full version of Word2000 included for $99) compared to buying Word2000 standalone for $300. Go figure.

Following that logic now all Microsoft needs to do is bundle Win2k Server with Bob and sell it for $139.

For the last year I have been advising customers who want to buy Office that it's over $100 cheaper to buy MS-Works or Corel WordPerfect Office Suite and then buy the Office Upgrade. Because it is.

Most people really don't need Office, especially in a home/small business environment. Unless you need VBA, Office is probably overkill (The exceptions are Frontpage and Outlook).

I'd get people coming in wanting to buy Office, and I'd ask what they need it for, and they want it to write letters. Then I'd tell them it's $500 for Office, or $100 for Works, which will do everything they need, and they'd always choose the latter.

If you have children you can also buy it on a student licence. Check the rules and regs first but it is a fraction of the cost, like £100 instead of £450.
If it aint broke, don't fix it....... If it's broke, buy a new one

That's what I keep telling my customers. Most of them who have kids, do it.

Even if you don't have kids in school...there's a way to do this. In the US we have a Junior, or Community College system. Anyone can sign up for a single credit class (usually about $34us) and get a student ID card. Now they can buy the educational discount version and they don't have to go to the class if they don't want....

My version of 2K SBE doesn't have Powerpoint, only Word, Excel, Outlook and on CD2 Publisher.

O2k Premium has PowerPoint, Access & Frontpage.

I do believe though that O2K Pro has Powerpoint though.
