My friend has Chinese Windows, so the only way I can get around is to remember exactly where things are, like a certain checkbox in a dialog. Fortunately the pulldown menus still use the same english letter as a menomic, so I'm not totally lost.

Yep,.. one time I had to do some heavy duty maintenance on a Japanese version of Windows 98 on a laptop for some Japanese customers back when I worked at TI. I couldn't read any of it, but just sorta had to go blindly by remembering where things were. It was actually kinda fun. I love a good Windows challenge like that.

There were a few times that I had to troubleshoot in Spanish, but it was never required from me. I am far from fluent. I did run across a French version of Windows 95 once. I got about halfway through the installation before I realized anything was different.

I had to do that for the Thai version of windows 2000. Nothing like setting up IP address just by place recognition. I also need to trouble shoot in Vietnamese and English for the users at work.
Hey? Why is my computer prompting me if I would like to accept a cookie? Is it Oatmeal or Chocolate Chip?

Bout the most fun I had was telling an english speaking newbie over the phone how install a german program on german windows.... got there in the end. I have no clue why this person didn't request the english version since it was readily available.
Never, ever approach a computer saying or even thinking "I will just do this quickly."
