    Angry computer shop baaaaad!!!

I actualy got something right for once!!
A friend of mine bought a Maxtor 80 GIG HDD drive and couldnt install it basicaly bios limitations caused it not to be recognised so he took it to a computer shop (the one that built the machine in the first place)the tech said it was not possible. my friend does however no a fair bit and said could you flash the bios and use the maxblaster software to down load it!! the tech eventually agreed but told my friend that he would need to use his dialup internet account to download the files my friend agreed(NOTE computer shop without internet connection!!) 3 days and 30$ later i get a call it seems the guy told him that he could only get it to format to 53gig!! 4 hour later after a LL format of the drive and EZ bios my friend now has an 80 gig working drive the killer is when my friend looked at his internet cache the only sites this gut accessed was his hotmail, nokia and some others not Maxtor, Phoenix bios people and not windrivers!!! he has taken screenshots and is going to present them to the Boss of said shop

sorry for the essay but this realy pi$$ed me off!!

anything else we can do to them!!

I would bill them back for the online time and make the amount greater than they billed. This kind of "support" has to stop. It makes the legit people look bad. Good detective work on your part.

Here's a copy of my friends letter to the manager I think he might get the message

Recently, I submitted my computer to your shop for the
installation of a Maxtor 80 Gig hard drive, and the restoration
of a problematic DVD drive. I also had some difficulty with a
    jamming TV card.
After three days of service, you failed to properly install
the hard drive (only 50 gigs were available). In fact, the
attempted formatting of this drive under windows without proper
installation necessitated a risky and time consuming low-level
format. I even assured you upon retrieving my computer that I
felt confident the drive COULD be installed. The first screen
shot enclosed was taken 4 hours after I returned home from your
shop. And as you can see, the drive WAS successfully installed,
with all 80 gigs available. I did this simply by reading
Maxtor's web page (which I directed you to on the second day).
While your fix of the DVD drive was successful, you were
incorrect in diagnosing the problematic TV tuner card. You
first attuned the problem to simple incompatability, and later a
possible conflict with the DVD installation. The actual problem
was much simpler than that - it was just a matter of resolution.
The TV card was incompatible with 1024x768 resolution, and
prefers 800X600. This is actually recommended for most TV
    tuners.
My final complaint, and the reason I decided to write this
letter, is over your company's use of customer internet
accounts. I find it astounding that a computer company does not
own it's own ISP account. I actually had to hand over the
password to my account so that you could download the required
software from Maxtor. And when I checked my computer's history
file, I found that someone had been using my computer to access
pretty much everything BUT Maxtor's site (see the second
attachment, "scam.jpg"). Is this why my upgrades took so long,
and why the "downloads" were not effective?. I should remind
you that that internet time will be billed to me, and that since
I have a DSL account, it will automatically come with a 20 DHS
dial-up usage charge for this month!
So what have we learned today?

1.) RTFM - Read The F#@king Manual! You'd be surprised
how much time a little research can save you.

2.) Some TV cards don't like high res settings.

3.) If you are going to use a clients' computer for your
own personal use, cover your tracks. It's bad for business.

Included in this was screen shots one of the Installed drive succsesfuly formated and IE5's history folder

    Cool

I had a similar experience with a local computer shop. A friend of mine who is a very good photographer wants to experiment with some digital photography. Next thing I know is he has bought a PC, upon inspection this is what they had sold him. (Remember, he specified that Photoshop and picture editing was to be the main function):

    Celeron 500
    Elite Slot 1/socket 370 motherboard
    128 Mb Ram (PC100)
    20 GB Hard disk
    Richo all in one DVD/CD-RW
    S3 Savage 4 Video card
Negative scanner connected to a SCSI card

I could not believe this spec. The firm had slapped on a copy of Windows 98 and that’s is, none of the manufacturers drivers were installed and the SCSI card stopped working after a few days. After a month of trying to get the firm to do a proper job (without them charging extra for the process) I eventually told them to stuff it. I reinstalled Win 98, added the proper drivers and even configured the scsi card properly so the scanner worked. I replaced the video card with an ATI model. The whole process took a couple of days and it has never died since. And these people claim they know how to build and configure PC’s, I have now blacklisted them and I tell anyone who asks to avoid them like the plague
Good day to be alive, sir
Good day to be alive he says, yeah

These type of places definatly need to be closed down!!!! The only trouble is though that these are the places that stay afloat and the true legitimate business's go under. The customers say that they would never use 'X' again but the very next time they need to purchase something they are back to 'X' because they are a few Pounds/Dollars cheaper. Don't customers realise that cheaper is not nessecarily better???? Especially in this industry.

Have you gotten a reply back yet? I am interested in hearing their explaination to all of this. They will probably say that you went to the sites after they gave it back or something.
If at first you dont succeed, sit down and take a break.
