    Angry hardware install Win ME

    Trying to install a new dvdrom on Win ME but the Win update hardware info data base just hangs. The comp is recognising the device on start up.
    Can only get back to old device thro' system restore.
    Any suggestions please

    What kind of drive is it? Do you have all of the busmaster drivers installed for whatever motherboard you are using? If you can give us any more info, that would be helpful.

    Thanks, its a new Pioneer dvd rom 115HB. This is a recent problem with hardware and as I said, the old samsung drive will not reinstall after removing from device driver. The system will recognise and reinstall the old driver with ME restore only. Ive tried other hardware such as Sigma dvd and programme and the problem is still there. The comp recognises new hardware but I cant get past 'Windows updating the hardware info data base'
