Post Hp Pavilion and cable select

I have an Hp Pavilion here in to have a cdrw installed. The problem is it has an HD ( 1 IDE )
a CDROM ( 2 IDE ) and a Zip Internal (3 IDE ). The problem lies in hooking everything up. The cd and cdrw have to go in the top of the case as the front access is tapered so they will not fit physically in the 3rd. Now the problem is the Zip and hd will not co-exist on the same channel. The cables in the computer are cable select. If I set the drives up individually they work. If I set both drives up on cable select they detect in bios but the computer beeps and tries to boot off the floppy and then hangs. I tried a normal cable with the drives set as master slave and I get the same results. The HD is a WD 6.4GB. The computer is a Pavilion 8246 ( p233mmx w/48mb ram) Any one have any ideas what is going on?

Well I finally dug up an extra long IDE cable and hooked the cdrw and hd on it as Master and Slave and paired the cd and zip on the cable select to make this work.
