    Red face Help!!!

    Hi!
    My friend asked me to install win98 on his loptop. Now he has win95. I will have to fdisk and format hd. Can I use my win98 boot disk to do this. I newer Instaled OS on loptop. Is this the same as installing on desktop PC??? Any advise????

    Yes you can use your Win98 startup disk, it is
    preferred. That said, you are in for a long
    process of finding drivers. The major difference
    in the Win98 startup disk over Win95 is cdrom
    support.

    The only thing with laptops, especially older ones, is that they have a hidden partition on which they keep the bios and restore systems. Make sure you don't overwrite that.

    You should also make a note of the hardware listed in the device manager before formatting and should look on the laptop company website to make sure you can get 98 drivers for it.
    Never, ever approach a computer saying or even thinking "I will just do this quickly."

    Firstly, don't delete any partitions, for a simple OS upgrade, I really can't see the point.

    Just boot up and format, and install the O/S, but as posted above, make sure you can get the drivers for the laptop first.

    it's hiding for a reason The hidden partions don't cary a drive letter, so no worries there. just use the standard format.
