dial up and cable ISP, cheat / fix?
I have been using an ISP (freenetneme.co.uk) that only allows you to check your e-mails through their dial up connection, (you know where this is going don’t you… I have recently had cable put in and what to know is there any way I can collect my e-mails through the cable connection. I have spoke to the ISP and they said it’s a server thing and to collect e-mails I need to use my dial up account on a standard phone line modem. I have gotten round this so far buy plugging in an external usb modem (all my pci are full) but there must be a neater way round this I would have thought as more people go over to cable this will become a more common problem.
I don’t know if there is a way round this problem or not but if anyone knows anything or has any ideas please help.
Thanks

i have no real experience with this, but wouldnt it be just a simple case of using outlook and pointing the mail server fields at the server your getting your mail off of????
this is just a guess.. but give it a try and it might work.. if you have already, sorry for repeartin what you already thought..
cheers!!

if the free ISP offers only web-based mail you may be screwed. also they may require you to be logged in to get your mail. many of these free ISP's didnt offer POP mail that was accessible with Outlook Express. it mite be possible to have your mail from the free ISP forwarded to your new cable email account. that way you still get your mail without having to dial in.

If the dial-up ISP is blocking external access, there is nothing you can do.
Had this problem with my dial-up also.
They initially put the block on because people who cancelled their account did not remove the old settings from their email program and they were constantly flooding the mail server.
Eventually they removed the block because enough people who were paying for both services complained.

You need to connect to your ISP to get the mail there. The server checks the incoming request for an IP Address that belongs to the ISP. If it doesn't find one, it won't allow you to connect.
Alot of ISP's are starting to do this to prevent spam from being mailed through their servers..

If you know your ISP's server addresses, then try <a href="http://www.mail2web.com" target="_blank">Mail2Web</a>
