Canon BJC-4300 printer doesn't print
Got a BJC-4300 inkjet on LPT1 that does not print. Here are the machines specs:
AMD K6-2 333
192MB ram
6GB hdd
ATX mobo
Win 98SE
The printer was connected to a UMAX Astra 610P scanner which was connected to a HP CDRW 7100+.
I have tried the following:
- Changing print spooling from EMF to RAW to print directly to printer.
- Switching the LPT port between EPP, ECP, and Bi-directional.
- Connecting the printer directly to the LPT port without the scanner and writer.
- Switching out the printer cable with a known good cable.
- Reinstalling the drivers for the printer using the most recent copy from Canon's site.
The printer worked fine connected through the scanner and writer for several weeks. I am running out of options short of a new printer. Any advice would be much appreciated.

1.Does the printer go through the motions just not print anything?
2. Does it come straight up to a fault?
If #1 I would suggest replacing the cartridges ars the're probably empty, or dried up.
If #2 replace the BC21e print head & cartridge combo pack. More than likely a print head failure & unfortunatly you can't buy it seperatly.

is the printer dead, (possible?)
when reinstalling the drivers did you "remove" the printer first....? (may help)...

If you can use the green tab button for the ink tubs and it moves to the center and goes back to home position when cover is closed. It then is the ink tub electric contacts that are bad . The canon bjc-4000 series does that alot . You can try a new oem but usually the contacts are just very dirty with ink built up.
YOU can't HANDLE the TRUTH!!!

We have had a ton of these 4000 series printers, and the most common problem with them is that they seem to be printing OK, but no output is seen on the paper. If this is your problem, try ink cartridges, and if that doesn't help the print head may be clogged. Check around your area, the people that refill ink cartridges are usually sitting on a box or two of these print heads. If you can't find one, try soaking yours in mineral spirits overnight (yeah I know you're not supposed to do this, but it's worked for me several times.)

It has been my experience that many printers, especially Canon printers, do not like being hooked up to the passthru on any other peripherals, much less 2 of them. Try plugging it in direct to the port before you try anything else.
