what's the fastest CPU I can put in E-machines E-Tower 500is?
A customer brought in this ol POS and wants to upgrade from the celery 500 to the fastest cpu this bugger will take. I am hoping I can stick in a pIII, but I really doubt it'll take it. It has no jumper settings for the cpu and there aren't any settings in the BIOS either. I've just started to look at online documentation, but so far I haven't found the info I need. It looks like we are dealing with a PPGA proccessor on an LX chipset motherboard. Anyone what this thing will take?
Also, I imagine this a 66Mhz bus mobo... anyone know for sure?

Below is the information right from eMachines website, could not locate any information on the Florida MB that is in there-- SO... i was bored-- called eMachines myself, talked to their sales people, according to eMachines, the Celeron 500 IS the fastest that MB can handle.

Wow! Thanx for the phone call joelen. I guess I coulda just went that route myself.. hehe.
So it looks like expansion wasn't in their vocabulary when they built this thing. That's what I was afraid of... Oh well, maybe I can convince her to just get a new mobo and a decent AMD processor.

You didn't really expect upgradability from eMachines,........ did you? A new AMD is the route I would go, but i check into using a new case and ditching the one from eMachines.
It may save you headaches down the road.

I'm not sure but I think a Celeron 633 would work in that board.

Sorry bud! Lx chipsets aren't designed to handle the different voltages of the coppermine celerons vs. the classic celerons. Maybe some kind of Celeron overdrive processor from www.powerleap.com might work, but probably no when dealing with an eeeeeek machine.
